Welcome!

From here you can go in search of information on a variety of topics relating to Biblical studies (almost all Old Testament). The material covers discussions of the Bible text itself, other texts and inscriptions from the same era of history, results from archaeological studies, and some more general topics such as languages.

The whole site is under a process of continual update and extension, so you will find plenty of areas where it is not yet complete.

Please feel free to email me at info@oldtestamentstudies.net if you have any particular questions or areas of interest.

Winter 2008 - Final PhD approval for continuation awarded. This involved submitting two further essentially complete chapters plus an overall plan for completion, and defending the work so far at interview.
Spring 2006 - Formal “upgrade” from M.Phil. to PhD successfully completed. This involved submitting two essentially complete chapters plus an overall plan for completion, and defending the work so far at interview.
Autumn 2004 - I am starting an M.Phil. research degree under supervision by John Bimson at Trinity College Bristol. Updating the site contents will therefore be focused around areas touched on in this study, and other areas may languish a little. The focus of research will be to compare early Old Testament writings (especially poetry) with that found in other, non-Biblical writings. Comments and encouragement welcome!

Anyone having difficulty using this menu page should navigate by means of the complete site navigation page.

This site is viewed to best advantage using Internet Explorer version 4 or higher. Opera version 6 will be fine for most of the site, though in some places the results are poorer than for IE because of a lack of support for dynamic update of text. Opera 7 is much better. Some pages will only reliably work under Internet Explorer version 5 and upwards - this is indicated where appropriate. Netscape browsers on the whole afford a less reliable view - version 7 and above gives results very similar to Opera and Internet Explorer, but earlier versions (especially version 4) are more erratic. Several UNIX-based browsers, notable Konqueror and Galeon, have been tested. Except in the very few pages marked otherwise, the site is coded to strict HTML standards so problems are more likely to be related to the browser than the code. Users are welcome to report problems to me at info@oldtestamentstudies.net.
